24-hour Forecasting

Vaisala's 24-hour Forecasting ice prediction module uses the Vaisala IceBreak heat-balance model. IceBreak is the world's most popular ice prediction model, currently used by more than 10 national meteorological services to deliver forecasts to road and airport authorities. The key to the effectiveness of IceBreak lies in how it uses forecast inputs of atmospheric variables to produce a site-specific forecast of surface temperature and state. The standard forecast period is 24 hours, which can be extended to 72 hours if required.

Vaisala has carried out in-depth research to apply our automated ice prediction model with new Internet technology. Operational trials conducted during the last 2 years in England and Scotland, with a sample of 108 forecast sites, have shown that the model's performance is consistently excellent.
