Route Optimisation Product Modules

There are three main elements of Vaisala's Route Optimisation service, which can be selected individually or in combination:

1. Consultancy & Review
Consultancy and cost-benefit analysis to review existing operations (routes, depots, vehicles etc) and to assess alternative operational scenarios.

2. Efficiency & Performance
Route reductions & cost savings are the primary criteria. Routes aim to be as efficient as possible, minimising the overall number of routes required. Maximising operating effectiveness in this way significantly reduces variable and fixed costs. Route Optimisation blends resource availability with the physical constraints of the network to satisfy client specific requirements, including organisational and statutory considerations. Snow and ice routes are designed to meet national efficiency standards and to deliver Best Value.

3. Thermal Routing
Unique to Vaisala, treatment routes are designed using Thermal Mapping to segregate warm & cold areas. On a typical winter night, the difference in temperature across a network can easily be 10 ^oC. Consequently, some roads may be freezing while others are not, which offers significant scope for savings to be made via selective treatment operations. This makes the optimum use of resources: the right resources, at the right place, at the right time.

Optimised routes can be integrated with the IceCast system to provide dynamic Forecast Thermal Route Displays. These show the forecast minimum temperature across each route and whether or not they are likely to freeze.
